  SLACi FAQ's

All SLACi Versions
  • Do I have to install the 'My KVM Networks' client on my servers to operate SLACi?
No! SLACI can be deployed as an administrator tool to manage all device port alignment remotely. The installation computer can be independent of the switch system, or a computer managed on the switch infrastructure so all workstation consoles have operating access to SLACi.

  • How do I operate SLACi from user workstations?
Install SLACi on any computer connected to the switch. Use the embedded hot-key or OSD functions to select SLACi management computer. Use the SLACi interface to align computer and workstation locations or execute remote management infrastructure administration. Also see My KVM Networks.

TIP:   In the switch OSD (on-screen-display), edit the port name of the SLACi installation computer port so it appears at the top of the sorted OSD list. Or, create a new OSD user with access to a single switched port. Now, the hot-key and 'Enter' can be used for faster interface access.

  • How do I control my switch from a computer not connected to the switch through a RS-232 port?
Install SLACi on an independent user workstation. Configure the software to connect via TCP/IP using the IP address of the switch hardware or server port connected to the switch device(s).

  • Can I control switching from my workstation?
Yes! There is a user version of My KVM Networks. Any workstation or notebook with a network connection and SLACi installed can manage a KVM switch.

  • Can I manage RS-232 hardware over TCPIP?
Yes! A port server can be used as an interface between RS-232 and TCP/IP. Configure SLACi to connect via TCP/IP at the IP address configured on the port server.

  • Can I switch more than one computer at a time
Yes! Add two or more computer ports to a device group. Select or drag and drop a system device group on a display device group.

  • Does My KVM Networks manage device alignment on multiple switches?
Yes, My KVM Networks and SLACi Pro versions or higher operate multiple types of switches in distributed locations.

    • My KVM Network clients for SLACi x switch versions manage a single remote management infrastructure (RMI).

    • My KVM Networks with Pro and Enterprise versions of SLACi manage multiple remote management infrastructures based on authorization provided by the data center administrators. require one device library for each brand of KVM switch that is going to be managed, and the administrator must provide authorization to multiple SLACi deployments.

    • My KVM Networks Desktop clients can be isolated to a single SLACi installation or authenticate to a SLACi Enterprise server.

  • What is the per server port cost of SLACi?

Neglegible! SLACi manages operation of the RMI. The number of server or computer workstation devices can be 10 or 10,000.

  • What are the cost components?
We have 169 computers, 14 points of access (analog & digital) 37 operators on a Rose Xtensis (16x64) RMI with 5 generic KVMoIP devices and four models of APC remote power switches.

SLACi (Xtensis version) and My KVM Network (user-server) licenses. A device plug-in for the KVMoIP devices and operation plug-in for the APC switches.

My KVM Network server licenses are optional and provide operators with an easy-to-use GUI standard for managing access and control across multiple types of switches. My KVM Network offers a common user interface with automated and advanced switch operation.
