"properly executed it could be of great value in supporting server farms -- server alerts are processed automatically and handled by analysts who can be expected to need a console connection to resolve a specific alert. If the connection were made automatically as a part of the alerting process MPI could be reduced by eliminating the manual steps and preventing incorrect connections."

Senior Enterprise Systems Troubleshooter
"We have several systems that monitor events. Some are home made and some commercial. We use HP Open View to manage a huge part of the system, but screen real estate is precious. I could see this in an environment where you have limits on the number of monitors. You have one monitor on the KVM and several of your system health and status monitoring computers (like the one running open view) connected up. Then you have one display and should an event occur on any of the computers monitoring H&S, that display automatically gets fronted on the KVM."

Chief Information Systems Security Engineer
"have those "trigger" events send an SNMP event, have your network monitoring software (WhatsUpGold, or some such) trigger a program on whatever console is currently open, or on a screen dedicated to network or server health, and have it pop up a message stating, "Such and such server has such and such condition. Please switch to console #X to resolve this problem."

Security Administrator
"Managing our company infrastructure has become very difficult with the number of servers we are supporting (testing labs and production). Another challenge is our coporate security policy requires that only specific people have phyiscal access to any of our data centers. The ability to push the console to an on-call engineer will actually be very valuable as long as the system understands on-call rotations, etc. OR can integrate with an existing ticketing system (i.e. Remedy, Service Center, etc. If the system could also open a ticket that would be fantastic). I agree that the system should also send SNMP alerts to a NMS platform as additional notification point.

In our company, the cost of down time is very expensive as it has a huge impact to our business & customer. If we can reduce the amount of time it takes for an engineer to respond to a outage (get the page, get to a machine or a console), our company saves money. This type of functionality also allows for the adherence of our security policy."

Sr. Network Architect
"This might be helpful... in order to be alerted of a problem and automate a connection to a terminal window"
